Senior IT Technician/ IT Technician in the HKU Tech Landmark (Ref.: 536733) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance)
Requirements
Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronic Engineering or other relevant disciplines, with a minimum of 5 years of full-time professional experience covering IT management, technical support, and system solution deployment. They must demonstrate solid hands-on expertise across the following core areas:
(i) Deployment, daily operation and troubleshooting of office automation & digital booking and charging systems;
(ii) End-to-end administration and ongoing maintenance of user accounts, on-premise systems and entire network infrastructure;
(iii) Installation, technical troubleshooting and advisory support for software, AV and IT hardware for all offices, meeting rooms, and research laboratories;
(iv) Technical consultation and on-site support for the setup, commissioning and maintenance of research computing infrastructure, including HPC clusters and GPU servers;
(v) Proficiency in virtualisation platforms including VMware ESXi and Hyper-V, with practical experience in P2V migration and virtual machine/hypervisor server lifecycle management.
(vi) Experience in web application development, database design and management, administration, performance tuning, and system integration.
Possession of industry professional certifications, including Microsoft Certified Systems Engineer, Windows Server Hybrid Administrator Associate, JNTCP-EX, CCNA and Crestron certifications, will be a definite competitive advantage.
Ideal candidates possess excellent communication and interpersonal skills to collaborate seamlessly with internal teams, end users, key stakeholders, and external vendors/contractors. They are capable of independently delivering ad-hoc assignments and new technical projects while managing multiple concurrent priorities under tight deadlines. Fluency in both written and spoken English and Chinese is mandatory. Those with lower qualifications and/or less experience may be considered for appointment as IT Officer.
Main Duties and Responsibilities
The appointee will oversee the full-lifecycle rollout, ongoing maintenance, and technical support for office automation systems, facility booking platforms, and other digital workplace tools.
He/She will deliver specialist technical guidance and round-the-clock support covering PC and server software/hardware deployment, scheduled system backups, version updates, and disaster recovery and restoration, ensuring full compliance with the Centre’s ISDM (Information Security & Data Management) governance standards.
The appointee will provide comprehensive AV and IT technical support to facilitate daily research, teaching, and administrative operations and take ownership of the continuous monitoring, optimisation, and maintenance of all core servers and corporate network systems.
