IT Technician/Senior IT Assistant in the Department of Psychology (Ref.:537108)

Department of Psychology, The University of Hong Kong is seeking a dedicated and technically proficient IT Technician to provide comprehensive support across digital media, video production, social media operations, and departmental events. The appointee will play a pivotal role in ensuring seamless IT, AV, and live-streaming performance across departmental functions and digital channels.

The Role

The appointee will deliver technical assistance to staff and students utilizing creative applications such as Adobe Creative Cloud (including Premiere, Photoshop, and After Effects), while managing the formatting, encoding, and optimization of digital media content for deployment across platforms like Instagram, YouTube, and Rednote. The appointee will configure and operate cameras, lighting equipment, and audio capture systems for recordings and direct live-stream broadcasts using OBS, Zoom, and YouTube Live. Additionally, the role involves providing event photography and operating sound systems, wireless microphones, projection equipment, and digital displays for live and hybrid functions. General IT duties include delivering Tier 1 support for macOS and Windows environments, managing classroom AV infrastructure, recording systems, data storage systems, and network connections, as well as handling procurement, administering asset inventories, and completing ad-hoc duties as assigned.  On-the-job training will be provided. 

Requirements and Qualifications

Applicants should possess a Higher Diploma or University Degree in Information Technology, Digital Media Technology, Audio/Visual Engineering, or a related discipline, alongside one to two years of practical experience in IT, media production, or event technical support. Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in macOS and Windows administration, familiarity with social media media-formatting standards, and hands-on experience with Adobe Creative Cloud, Canva, and streaming software such as OBS and Zoom. Practical knowledge of digital cameras, video camera systems, audio mixing consoles, and general AV infrastructure is required. Candidates must possess a strong command of written and spoken English and Chinese, demonstrate the ability to work independently, and remain calm under pressure during live event operations.

What We Offer

The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.  A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 10% of basic salary.  Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits. Candidate with less experience may be considered for the position of Senior IT Assistant.
