Applications are invited for the position of Senior Research Assistant (carrying the functional title of Project Manager) at the Social Sciences Research Centre (SSRC) within the Faculty of Social Sciences (Ref.: 537382), to commence as soon as possible. The appointment is on a 1-year temporary basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance.

Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will provide a full spectrum of support to the research activities of the SSRC in various areas, including project management; project implementation and coordination; oversee data collection and management; liaise with different stakeholders and institutions; facilitate the collection of data; supervise junior research support staff; survey design and implementation; data cleaning and analysis; grant proposal preparation; academic paper and policy report writing; training and event organisation; as well as performing any other duties as assigned by the senior management team of the Centre.

 

Requirements

  • a Master’s degree or above in a Social Sciences discipline, preferably in project management, data analysis or a related field; a PhD degree will be an advantage;
  • at least 2 years’ relevant work experience, including experience supervising junior research staff or student helpers;
  • hands-on experience in survey research, including questionnaire design, sampling, fieldwork coordination and data quality control;
  • a track record of grant proposal preparation and of writing academic papers or policy reports for research or government audiences;
  • experience in project budgeting, procurement and progress reporting to funders, and in liaising with external partners, funders and government or NGO stakeholders;
  • strong quantitative skills, including experience with statistical software such as R, SAS or Stata, and the ability to manage and analyse large and complex datasets;
  • familiarity with research ethics review procedures and with personal data privacy requirements applicable to human-subject research data;
  • an excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese; the ability to communicate fluently in Cantonese is essential, and a working command of Putonghua is expected;
  • excellent organisational, time-management and problem-solving skills, with the ability to handle multiple tasks to tight deadlines; and
  • the ability to effectively engage with external stakeholders, including academics, social service groups, and policymakers;
  • strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work well with people from diverse backgrounds; mature and meticulous in handling matters.
