Senior Technical Officer/Technical Officer in the School of Biomedical Sciences (Ref.: 537582) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)

Applicants should possess a Bachelor's degree, preferably a postgraduate degree in Pathology and/or Physiology. They should have at least 2 years’ solid work experience in developmental biology or a related laboratory science discipline. They should also be highly motivated and able to work independently and as part of a team in a multidisciplinary laboratory environment. Experience with maintaining hematopoietic cultures, managing multiple Drosophila colonies, and advanced imaging techniques will be an asset. Those with less experience will be considered for the post of Technical Officer. 

The appointee will play a crucial role in supporting student practical classes, demonstrations, laboratory activities, maintaining equipment and facilities, and collaborating with researchers to ensure smooth scientific operations.  His/her responsibilities include, but are not limited to: conducting laboratory experiments and providing technical support to researchers and staff, maintain and calibrate laboratory equipment, troubleshoot technical issues, and ensure their proper functioning, prepare and analyse samples, perform quality control tests, and accurately record experimental data, assisting in the development and implementation of laboratory protocols and standard operating procedures, collaborate with researchers to optimize experimental procedures and provide technical guidance, ensure compliance with safety regulations, maintain a clean and organized laboratory environment. He or she will also need to liaise with commercial parties for purchases, and external contractors and the Estate Office to conduct infrastructure maintenance works.
