Applications are invited for appointment as Professor/Associate Professor on tenure terms or Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Pre-modern Chinese History, jointly in the School of Chinese and the Hong Kong Institute for the Humanities and Social Sciences (Ref.: 523967), to commence on September 1, 2024 or as soon as possible thereafter. Appointment as Assistant Professor will be made on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.

Applicants should hold a Ph.D. degree in Pre-modern Chinese History or related fields, preferably with a specialisation in pre-Tang China and experience in utilising Digital Humanities or quantitative history methodologies.  A proven track record of dedication to teaching and research excellence in pre-modern Chinese history is essential.  Special consideration will be given to candidates who demonstrate a commitment to advancing an innovative research-driven teaching profile and can effectively engage students in Digital Humanities applications to Chinese history.

The successful candidate is expected to excel in undergraduate teaching, postgraduate supervision, and actively participate in collaborative research initiatives.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 15% of basic salary for fixed-term appointment.  Other benefits include annual leave and professional leave, medical benefits, and free access to on-campus gyms and libraries.  Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
