Assistant Technical Manager/Technical Officer (holding the functional title of Engineer/Assistant Engineer) with Frontend Focus in the School of Public Health (Ref.: 524533) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefit scheme, totaling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to funding availability and satisfactory performance)

Applicants should possess a Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or a related discipline, with at least 3 years’ professional experience in frontend development (focusing on UI development and DevOps). They should also possess strong command and hands-on experience with React.js and its core principles; excellent understanding of JavaScript including ES6+ features; proficiency in HTML and CSS, including preprocessors (e.g., Sass or LESS); and sound understanding of web markup, including HTML5 and CSS3. Solid experience working with Git or other version control systems and knowledge of responsive and adaptive design principles would be valuable. Prior experience with state management libraries (e.g., Redux) and understanding of working with RESTful APIs and asynchronous request handling would also be an advantage. Applicants with less experience will be considered as Technical Officer (holding the functional title of Assistant Engineer).

The appointee will be primarily responsible for (i) creating responsive, efficient, and intuitive user interfaces using React.js and related libraries; (ii) working closely with UI/UX designers to implement designs and prototypes; (iii) optimising components for maximum performance across a vast array of web-capable devices and browsers; (iv) ensuring the codebase is well-structured, documented, and maintainable; (v) conducting unit tests and debugging to ensure software meets the requirements; (vi) performing code reviews, debugging, and troubleshooting to identify and fix software defects and performance issues; (vii) keeping up-to-date with the latest industry trends, techniques, and best practices in front-end development; and (viii) collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams, including backend developers and product managers.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical/dental benefits.
