Part-time Student Research Assistant in the Faculty of Education (Ref.: 525919) (The appointment will commence on September 23, 2024, for a period of one year.)

Applicants should be undergraduate students. They should have a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (spoken Cantonese) and have relevant experience in conducting data analysis (particularly Conversation Analysis and Inferential Statistics). Strong communication skills, independence, multi-tasking, and attention to details are essential.

The appointee will work on the following research project funded by the Early Career Scheme, Research Grants Council of Hong Kong with Professor Kevin Tai (Principal Investigator): “The Affordance of an Emotionally Safe Translanguaging Space for Supporting Hong Kong Ethnic Minority Students in Managing Second Language Classroom Anxiety: A Study of Chinese as an Additional Language Classrooms”. Students will participate in literature search, data collection and analysis procedures, including conducting a questionnaire, shadowing the semi-structured interviews carried out by the researchers (the Principal Investigator or his PhD student), transcribing some video classroom data and analysing the quantitative and qualitative data. Students will also be involved in piloting of the multimodal resource package, which will be used by a number of pre-service and in-service teachers and second language researchers. Strong communication skills, independence, multi-tasking, and attention to details are essential.
