IT Manager for the eLearning and Data Technologies Team in the Information Technology Services (ITS) (Ref.: 526148)
Information Technology Services (ITS) provides central IT services to support the University’s teaching, learning, research and administrative activities. ITS is transforming its organization to support its new strategic development and strategic adoption of new technologies. Information about ITS can be obtained at https://its.hku.hk/.
We are seeking high caliber IT talents to join us to provide top-notch IT services for our eLearning and Data Technologies Team.
The Role
The appointee will be responsible for:
- Communicating with users regarding application and database issues;
- Providing database support;
- Keeping up with the emerging software development, database technologies and industry best practice;
- Recommending and enforcing database policies, procedures and standards to ensure data security, privacy and integrity;
- Performing rapid application development and providing system support;
- Exploring the adoption of Generative AI to enhance user experience; and
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Qualities
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science / Computer Engineering / Information Technology or a related field with at least 3 years’ relevant experience including supervisory experience;
- A good command of written and spoken English;
- Good communication, presentation, analytical and problem-solving skills;
- Good organizational and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to multi-task and prioritize tasks in fast-paced environment; and
- Attentive to details and self-motivated.
- Certification in ITIL and PRINCE2 are preferred.
Applicants should also have good knowledge, skills and successful track records in the following areas, which are considered essential to the post:
- Strong experience in database administration, e.g. Oracle, SQL server, IBM DB2, including but not limited to:
- Install, maintain, upgrade of database platforms
- Performance and SQL tuning
- Diagnose and troubleshoot database errors
- Perform tests and evaluations regularly to ensure data security, privacy and integrity
- Monitor database performance, implement changes and apply new patches and versions when required
- Create and manage database reports, visualizations, and dashboards for senior management
- Setup NoSQL platforms (e.g. MongoDB)
- Experience in the following technologies being advantages:
- Microsoft Power Platform
- Web development
- Mobile development
Applicants with less experience will be considered for the position of IT Officer.
What We Offer
The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years and commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
