Research Officer in the Department of Chemistry (Ref.: 527065)

We are seeking a highly qualified individual with a Ph.D. in Chemistry, specializing in X-ray crystallography or a closely related field. The successful candidate should have at least five years of hands-on experience as an experimental crystallographer, preferably in an academic or industrial setting. Extensive knowledge in the structural determination of various types of crystals, including small molecules and proteins, is essential. Proficiency in powder X-ray diffraction (Rietveld refinement) and single-crystal X-ray diffraction techniques is required.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and manage the X-ray diffractometers in the Department (PXRD, SXRD, and rotating anode systems from Bruker and Rigaku)
  • Provide data collection, processing, structure determination, and structure reporting services
  • Develop and teach an X-ray crystallography course that includes both theory and practical sessions and establish a student-led data collection and structure determination system in the Department
  • Participate in the development of crystallographic research methodologies tailored to the Department's needs, including writing or assisting in writing grant proposals for the development
  • Involve in crystallographic discussions and collaborations with the researchers in the department
  • Perform additional duties related to crystallography as required

What we offer

The appointment will commence as soon as possible on a two-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.

A highly competitive salary package commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
