Post-doctoral Fellow in the Department of Civil Engineering (Ref.: 527267), to commence as soon as possible for one year, with the possibility of renewal.

Duties and Responsibilities

The appointee will guide the development of a simulation platform and artificial intelligence-based algorithms to optimize elderly travel services. This will involve overseeing the design and implementation of a recommendation algorithm, an elderly travel route optimization algorithm, and a transfer service for elderly and disabled passengers. The appointee will also guide the development of a mobile app for the service. The appointee is expected to have strong programming skills (Python, Java, HTML and JavaScript) and good knowledge of optimization approaches and artificial intelligence, especially reinforcement learning models. The appointee is also expected to start new projects once new research funding is secured by the team.

Requirements

Applicants should have a Ph.D. in Transport Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Urban Studies or related fields, with a strong track record in the following: refereed publications in transport, artificial intelligence, operations research, urban studies/planning; advanced skills in transport simulations, machine learning, and optimization; as well as experience in co-authoring and managing competitive research grants. Applicants should also have the ability to manage own academic research and meet defined milestones on time with an understanding of transportation simulations and optimizations.

The appointment will commence as soon as possible on a temporary basis for one year, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability. About Dr. Jintao Ke

Dr. Jintao Ke is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Civil Engineering at the University of Hong Kong (HKU). Dr. Ke received his B.S. degree (2016) in civil engineering from Zhejiang University, and his PhD degree in Transportation Engineering from the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology under the supervision of Prof. Hai Yang. His research interests include smart transportation, smart city, urban computing, shared mobility, machine learning in transportation, operational management for transportation studies, etc. Prior to joining HKU, he has conducted research, studied, and taught at Didi Chuxing Big Data Research Institute, the University of Michigan, and the Hong Kong Polytechnic University. Dr. Ke has published over 40 SCI/SSCI indexed research papers in top-tier journals such as Transportation Research Part A/B/C/D/E, IEEE TKDE, and IEEE TITS with over 4000 citations. He has been recognized as a top 2% scientist globally by Stanford University. He currently serves as an Editorial Board Member of Transportation Research Part C, Transportation Research Part E and Travel Behaviour and Society.
