Assistant Service Manager (Collection Development) (at the rank of Executive Officer) in the University Libraries (Ref: 528719)

We are looking for a candidate to join the University Libraries to oversee and manage library collection development.

The Role

The appointee will join the Technical Services division of the University Libraries supervised by the Collection Services Librarian. The appointee will be responsible for ongoing assessment and review of electronic resources. The appointee will also be responsible for assisting print and physical collection management, and reconfiguration exercises.

The appointee will be required to perform the following job duties:

  • Data processing and analysis for collection development purposes;
  • Data manipulation and interpretation related to library resources vendors over library acquisitions, electronic resources subscription, open access publishing and transformative agreement, etc;
  • Frequent calibration and reconciliation of fund ledgers to keep track of expenditure;
  • Document reviews with contractual effect;
  • Compilation and collation of library circulation statistics and electronic resources usage reports;
  • Routine reconfiguration planning and execution, re-shelving, compacting, relegation and weeding operations on the library’s print and physical collections;
  • Liaison with donors for accepting and processing gifts-in-kin; and
  • Provision of strategic vision as to the library’s collection development goals to support the University’s research, teaching and learning.

Qualifications and Qualities

Applicants should at least possess a bachelor’s degree or equivalent awarded by a reputable university in Hong Kong, China or abroad. A recognized qualification in librarianship and information sciences (M.L.S. or equivalent, Higher Diploma (LIM) or equivalent) is preferred. Applicants should have at least 7 years of post-qualification experience in academic libraries.

Applicants should be able to demonstrate a professional command of both the English and Chinese languages in writing, also fluent spoken Cantonese, English and Mandarin/Putonghua.

What we offer

The appointment will be made on a fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance.  A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, In addition to annual leave and medical benefits. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary.
