Applications are invited for appointment as Tenure-Track Associate Professor/Assistant Professor of Aeronautics in the Department of Mechanical Engineering (Ref.: 528839), to commence as soon as possible, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.
The Department of Mechanical Engineering offers degree programmes at all levels and has a highly vibrant research environment covering a wide range of disciplines. We currently employ about 35 full-time faculty members and have well-equipped teaching and research facilities and support. We have resolved to strengthen our capacity in aeronautics in view of the bright prospect for general aviation as an advanced/futuristic means of urban and regional transport for people and goods. The main thrust of our efforts is towards the hardcore technology enabling such advanced transport. Existing research activities related to the advertised post include robotics and UAV flight control, turbomachinery aerodynamics, aeroacoustics, and new materials for products including high-temperature applications. Candidates with strong credentials in any of the following areas are welcome: thermofluids, structural mechanics, material sciences and/or manufacturing technology, acoustics and control. Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Aeronautical, Mechanical, or a related engineering field with an excellent research record. The successful candidate is expected to conduct cutting-edge research leading to technology breakthroughs in aeronautical engineering. The appointee will also be responsible for delivering quality teaching in relevant subjects at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels in addition to the engagement in knowledge transfer activities and provision of administrative service to the University/Faculty/Department.
A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
