Senior Manager (at the rank of Administrative Assistant II) in the School of Humanities in support of a new Institute for Advanced Study of the Transnational History of China to be established (Ref.: 528903) (to commence as soon as possible, on a two-year fixed-term basis with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance)

Applicants should have a good Bachelor’s degree with at least 5 years of relevant work experience preferably in the higher education sector or a related field. They should have an excellent command of both written and spoken English and Chinese (including Putonghua), with a high level of communication and project management skills. They should also be collegial and able to coordinate with internal and external stakeholders, and have a strong ability to manage competing priorities and tight deadlines.

The appointee will play a key role in the development of the Institute, and will have the opportunity to work in a vibrant and stimulating environment, to collaborate with top-tier academics from around the world, and to engage with stakeholders in the business community in Hong Kong and GBA, establishing networks within China and overseas.

The appointee will work closely with the Director and will be responsible for the day-to-day organization and management of the Institute. They will play a pivotal role in research and research impact, solidifying the Institute’s reputation for ground-breaking academic exploration in the field of the transnational history of China. The appointee will help to manage the research budget, using strategic thinking and financial acumen. They will support the hosting of esteemed Visiting Scholars, facilitate cross-disciplinary academic research, and foster collaboration and innovation among members of the Institute and its International Advisory Board. This role will provide an unique opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge research initiatives and make a lasting impact on the academic community. The appointee will also oversee plans for the development of teaching programmes, and will collaborate with other key players within the HKU community. Aside from this, they will provide administrative support in the areas of project management, planning and organization of events, grants applications, human resources and financial matters, and undertake other duties as assigned. Occasional work outside office hours may be required. Shortlisted candidates will be invited to attend a written test and an interview.
