Curatorial Assistant (at the rank of Clerical Assistant) in the University Museum and Art Gallery (UMAG) (Ref.: 530481)

The Role

The appointee will provide a wide range of administrative support to UMAG, include:

  • Developing onsite and online public and school education programmes, such as crafting education materials and contributing to e-learning activities;
  • Coordinating with internal and external parties for matters related to media, such as scheduling interviews and preparing press materials;
  • Organising, planning and promoting museum events for schools and partners;
  • Providing assistance for onsite and online lectures, film screenings and concerts, such as maintaining events calendars and managing audience/participants issues such as signage, publicity, attendance monitoring;
  • Managing and leading guided tours;
  • Organising docent training;
  • Planning and supervising interns and art ambassadors;
  • Editing videos and devising virtual exhibition views;
  • Performing translation tasks; and
  • Other ad hoc projects and tasks as assigned.

Qualifications and Qualities

  • A Bachelor’s degree, preferably in cultural, art history, museum studies or communications AND a Level 4 result or above in both Chinese Language and English Language in the Hong Kong Diploma of Secondary Education Examination (HKDSEE) or Hong Kong Certificate of Education Examination (HKCEE), or equivalent ;
  • Two years’ work experience in the art or education sector, with a demonstrated passion for the cultural sector;
  • Proficiency in computer software including Zoom, Teams, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint and knowledge of photo/image editing is a plus.;
  • A strong command of written and spoken English and Chinese, proficiency in Putonghua is an advantage;
  • Ability to multi-task and be attentive to details, and should be able to work flexible hours. Working shifts on Saturdays and Sundays will be required;
  • Proactive, self-motivated, with a strong sense of responsibility, and a good team player

What We Offer

The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
