Software Developer (at the rank of IT Officer/IT Technician) in the Teaching and Learning Innovation Centre (TALIC) (Ref.: 531688)
We are looking for a software developer to help students to gain more confidence in their subjects and improve their grades. We welcome applications from those who are looking for a meaningful way to contribute their software development skills to improving education in Hong Kong.
The Role
The appointee will be responsible for developing a responsive web application (for teachers and students) that will implement and automate regular tests in the classroom, provide adaptive tests and give personalized feedback to students. He/she will work with a team of educators to design and develop elements of the web application, provide technical support, and lead testing efforts.
Qualifications and Qualities
• Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or a related discipline;
• 1 to 3 years’ relevant work experience in web development;
• Experience with frontend fundamentals (HTML5/CSS/JavaScript), data visualization (e.g., D3.js) and modern JavaScript frameworks, preferably React.js;
• Familiarity with RESTful API principles and design;
• Knowledge of NoSQL Database, preferably MongoDB, Source-control management (SCM) using Git;
• Basic understanding of UNIX-based system like Linux (Ubuntu in particular);
• Using container-based software virtualization, Docker in particular;
• Basic proficiency in Golang/Go (if needed, learning support will be provided for successful applicants, in which case, experience in Python, Node.js, or PHP is essential);
• Good command of written and spoken English;
• Good communication and problem-solving skills are essential for interacting with non-technical team members and troubleshooting.
The ideal candidate will have most of the above skillset, with an eagerness to learn the remaining skills. Full-stack development (experience in both frontend and backend) experience would be an advantage. Fresh graduates are welcome to apply. Those with less experience or qualifications may be considered for appointment at the rank of IT Technician.

What We Offer
The appointment will be made on a temporary full-time contract for 1 year, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.
