Applications are invited for appointment as Assistant IT Director in the School of Public Health (Ref.: 534233) on a one-year temporary term or two-year fixed-term basis.

Applicants should possess:

  • A Master’s degree or above, preferably in Computer Science/IT or other STEM related disciplines;
  • A minimum of 10 years of relevant work experience, with at least 8 years of managerial and supervisory responsibilities. Relevant work experience in higher education sector or research institutions is desirable. Possession of professional certifications, such as PMP and ITIL, and experience in integrating IT technology with research activities an advantage;
  • Proficiency in managing computers running on various operating systems including Linux, Windows and macOS; and knowledge of programming languages and frameworks such as Python, Laravel and Vue.js;
  • Proficiency in Linux server administration, data management and security, cybersecurity best practices, and compliance with regulatory requirements;
  • Experience in using, managing, and supporting various computing technologies including virtualization, cloud computing, high performance computing, firewall technology, AI technology, network storage technology, web development environment such as XAMPP;
  • Proficiency in strategic planning, risk assessment, compliance management, and performance optimization of computing environment;
  • Proficiency in best practices for handling and protecting personal data and proven track record of successful IT project management;
  • Excellent command of spoken and written English and Chinese, with exceptional interpersonal, communication and leadership skills; and
  • A high level of self-motivation and team orientation, with the ability to lead projects and manage a team to successful delivery. They should also exercise sound judgment and demonstrate strong problem-solving skills.

 

As the IT team lead of the School of Public Health, the appointee should deploy the Team to cover major responsibilities, such as:

  • Supporting the School Director in formulating and implementing IT strategies and solutions that best fit the operations and development of the School;
  • Supporting research and teaching and learning activities, e.g. installation of hardware/ server, deployment of licensed software, develop and maintain software to capture teaching activities and student records;
  • Supporting daily operations and PR functions, including developing and maintaining software to capture HR and finance records, website development and maintenance, supporting communications and events, and providing daily IT support and trouble-shoot for users;  
  • Upholding and advocating data security policies and standard within the School, and collaborating with University Central unit to ensure compliance to University IT policies;
  • Guiding the IT Team to develop support and instructions for AI-assisted statistical coding for public health research;
  • Managing and supervising the IT team, and other outsource capacities where applicable; and
  • Performing other duties or projects as assigned by the School Director.

 

The appointee may be required to work outside normal office hours and occasionally outside of campus. Shortlisted candidates may be invited to attend a written test and an interview.

 

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.  Contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary, will be offered for fixed term appointment. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
