Full Time Front-end Developer (at the rank of IT Officer) in the Centre for Information Technology in Education within the Faculty of Education (Ref.: 534656) 

We are looking for a Full Time Front-end Developer (at the rank of IT Officer) in the Centre for Information Technology in Education within the Faculty of Education. 

Duties and Responsibilities 
The appointee will: 

  • Implement HKU’s assessment task designs per OECD-provided customizers for different assessment task types
  • Build modular, reusable front-end components for web-based assessment applications
  • Handle data configuration/ exchange via JSON and XML for assessment task development
  • Develop, package and render QTI-aligned Portable Custom Interactions (PCIs), ensuring assessment platform compatibility
  • Ensure compliance with WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards and responsive design for multi-device use
  • Embed PCI-wrapped items into the assessment platform in line with relevant agreements and technical specifications
  • Ensure complete, accurate data capture in the correct format to support assessment project
  • Refine front-end code for optimal performance and user experience (UX) 
  • Collaborate with HKU’s cross-functional project team
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Essential Requirements

  • At least Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, IT, Web Development or a related discipline
  • Advanced proficiency in JavaScript (ES6+), HTML5 and CSS3
  • Proven experience building modular, reusable web application front-end components
  • Expertise in JSON/XML for web project data handling and configuration
  • Solid knowledge and application of WCAG 2.1 accessibility standards and responsive design
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, problem-solving skills and strong attention to detail
  • Self-motivated, proactive and able to meet project timelines
  • Hands-on experience with QTI standards and PCI development, packaging and rendering. This is not required but would be an advantage

The appointment will commence as soon as possible for one year.
