Director of Educational Technology (at the rank of Senior Assistant Registrar/Assistant Registrar) in the Teaching and Learning Innovation Centre (Ref.: 534687)
We are seeking a strategic and dynamic leader to assume the role of Director of Educational Technology, to foster AI initiatives in teaching and learning across the university community.
The Role
The appointee will oversee the strategic planning, implementation, and assessment of AI initiatives aimed at advancing teaching and learning at HKU. The role entails promoting innovative AI-driven solutions, integrating advanced technologies into teaching and learning activities, and cultivating a culture of educational transformation across the university.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement the AI strategy to support innovative teaching and learning initiatives;
- Lead the integration of AI tools and platforms into curriculum delivery, assessment, and student support;
- Collaborate with faculty and staff to promote AI adoption and provide training on AI technologies;
- Engage with internal and external stakeholders to advance AI-driven educational solutions;
- Ensure ethical use of AI, data privacy, and responsible AI practices within the university;
- Monitor and evaluate the impact of AI initiatives on teaching and learning;
- Promote awareness of AI innovations through internal and external communication channels.
Qualifications and Qualities
- A University degree, preferably a higher degree, in AI, Computer Science, Education Technology, Data Science, or related field;
- 10-15 years of experience in digital transformation at higher education or complex organizations, with at least 5 years’ experience at managerial role. Experience in a university setting is an advantage but not mandatory;
- Proven leadership in AI application, development, and implementation within complex organizations;
- Experience integrating AI into teaching and learning environments is highly desirable;
- Strong knowledge of AI, machine learning, natural language processing, and data analytics;
- Familiarity with educational technologies and digital learning platforms;
- Demonstrated ability to lead multidisciplinary teams and develop strategic plans;
- Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and collaboration skills;
- Commitment to ethical AI, data privacy, and responsible technology use;
- Candidates with less experience may be considered for appointment as Assistant Registrar.
What We Offer
The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 or 3 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totaling up to 15% of basic salary. Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
