IT Officer (holding the functional title of Assistant IT Manager) in the Faculty of Dentistry (Ref.: 536249)
We are looking for an IT Officer (holding the functional title of Assistant IT Manager) to join the IT Team of the Faculty of Dentistry.
The Role
The appointee will provide a full spectrum of IT support to the Faculty. Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assist in the planning, development, maintenance, and security of the Faculty’s IT infrastructure, servers, and networks;
- Undertake programming and scripting work, and support the development and maintenance of the Faculty’s websites and Content Management System (CMS) platforms;
- Provide technical and multimedia support for teaching activities, Continuing Professional Development (CPD) programmes, seminars, and events;
- Deliver day‑to‑day IT support to Faculty staff, including hardware, software, network, and application issues;
- Support IT projects, system upgrades, and digital initiatives, and liaise with central IT units and external vendors as required;
- Assist in evaluating and implementing new technologies to improve efficiency and service quality; and
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Working outside normal office hours and on weekends may be required occasionally.
Qualifications and Qualities
- A Bachelor’s degree or above in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Computer Engineering, Information Technology or a related discipline, with at least 2 years of relevant post-qualification experience in server administration, system shell scripting, process automation, network security, and CMS development and maintenance, preferably in tertiary institutions;
- Proficiency in Mac, PC, and Linux environments, with good knowledge of software applications;
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities effectively;
- Good interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to liaise with academic and administrative staff, central IT units, and external vendors;
- A responsible, self‑motivated, and proactive team player who is also capable of working independently; and
- Possession of relevant practical experience in website programming (e.g. HTML 5, CSS 3, PHP, JavaScript, MySQL and WordPress), database management or cloud technologies would be an advantage.
What We Offer
The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability. A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary.
