Research Assistant I in the Faculty of Dentistry (Ref.: 536478)

We are looking for a Research Assistant I in the Faculty of Dentistry.

The Role

The appointee will support the operations, administration and technical functions of the Haptics Simulation Laboratory and Simulation Laboratory.  Key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Managing and coordinating the laboratory bookings, teaching schedules, research activities and faculty visits;
  • Acting as the primary on-site “super user” of the simulator systems, and providing technical and administrative support to students and faculty members for research, teaching and Continuing Professional Development (CPD) activities;
  • Performing routine system checks, troubleshooting and basic maintenance of simulators and equipment, and liaising with vendors on software updates, maintenance and procurement;
  • Monitoring the consumable supplies and handling vendor quotations;
  • Assisting in the operation of equipment during teaching sessions, assessments, and practical examinations;
  • Supporting the development of teaching cases and simulation-based learning materials for dental courses;
  • Assisting with Institutional Review Board (IRB) documentation and compliance procedures for teaching-related research;
  • Maintaining accurate records of laboratory activities, case development, equipment maintenance and research progress;
  • Assisting in attendance-taking and access control during teaching sessions; and
  • Performing any other duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Working outside normal office hours may be required occasionally.

Qualifications and Qualities

  • A Bachelor’s degree or above in Biomedical Engineering, Health Technology, Dental Therapy, Computer Science, or a related discipline; Strong aptitude for learning and operating simulation and technology-enhanced systems;
  • Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills for electronic equipment;
  • Self-motivated, detail-oriented, and well-organised, with strong interpersonal skills;
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a team-based academic environment;
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications and scheduling platforms;
  • Excellent command of written and spoken English; proficiency in Cantonese and/or Mandarin is an advantage; and
  • Applicants with the following experience will be considered as an advantage:
    • Operation or management of dental or medical simulation equipment;
    • Laboratory management, scheduling, or booking systems; and
    • Research processes and IRB procedures.

What We Offer

The appointment will be made on fixed-term full-time contract for 2 years, to commence as soon as possible with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and funding availability.  A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, together with contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme at 10% of basic salary.  Other benefits include annual leave and medical benefits.
