Applications are invited for appointments as Tenure-Track Clinical Professor/ Clinical Associate Professor/ Clinical Assistant Professor (several posts) in the LKS Faculty of Medicine (Ref.: 534597), to commence as soon as possible, on a four-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal subject to satisfactory performance and consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second four-year fixed-term contract. Exceptionally outstanding candidate for Clinical Professor may be considered for appointment on tenure terms.
Clinical Professor
- Applicants should possess a specialist registration with the Hong Kong Medical Council (or be eligible to apply to the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine for the Certification of Specialist Registration), and preferably other relevant higher academic qualification (e.g. MD, MS, PhD). They should have a distinguished and sustained record of high-quality impactful research, as indicated by publications and competitive grants, with demonstrated clinical excellence. They should also have achieved international recognition for scholarship and professional expertise. In addition, applicants should demonstrate a strong commitment to, and evidence of, excellence in teaching, curriculum development, capacity building, mentoring early career researchers and supervision at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Preference will be given to those with demonstrated administrative leadership in universities or healthcare settings.
- Appointees shall be mapped to the relevant departments and take up a key role in achieving the highest standard of quality in all aspects of its teaching, research and clinical programmes; fostering academic collaboration within and outside the Faculty/University; as well as pursuing new strategic directions for the further development of their respective departments. They may be assigned to discharge duties at hospital(s) and clinic(s) affiliated with HKU Health System.
Clinical Associate Professor/ Clinical Assistant Professor
- Applicants should possess a medical qualification registrable with the Medical Council of Hong Kong, with the attainment of the status as Fellow of the Hong Kong Academy of Medicine or equivalent. They should display strong clinical acumen and skills in the relevant specialty, with demonstrated experience in teaching medical students, interns and trainees. Proven capacity to initiate and contribute to basic, clinical and/or translational research is essential. It is also advantageous to have a higher academic qualification (e.g. MD, MS, PhD).
- Appointees shall be mapped to the relevant departments with a strategic role to play in growing the clinical services. They shall also focus on the education of medical students, postgraduate teaching and supervision, as well as academic research. They may be assigned to discharge duties at hospital(s) and clinic(s) affiliated with HKU Health System.
- Those with less qualifications and experiences may be considered for appointment as Clinical Assistant Professor. There will be opportunities for academic growth, career development and mentorship, with protected time for educational and clinical research activities, depending on the appointees’ interests and accomplishments.

A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointments will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. A start-up package that is commensurate with the needs and experience of the appointee will be provided. A monthly cash allowance will be offered to the successful candidates. Housing benefits will also be provided as applicable.
