Research Assistant I/II (holding the functional title of Application Developer) in the Department of Industrial and Manufacturing Systems Engineering (Ref: 501882) (to commence as soon as possible for one year, with the possibility of renewal)

We are the premier team in research and development of VR and MR related technologies in a multitude of industrial applications at the University of Hong Kong. The team is expanding to work on new exciting projects involving cross-discipline cutting-edge technologies, and we are looking for self-motivating individuals who are familiar with the Unity3D game development process to join the team as VR/MR Application Developer, with responsibilities ranging from VR/MR game design, interaction programming, 3D modelling, etc. Applicants who are familiar with game development in Unity3D and are passionate about trying out and developing new technologies are welcome to join our research team.

Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s degree or Higher Diploma in Computer Science, Interactive Media, Creative Media or related fields. They should be familiar with interactive game development and have experience in Unity3D application development. They should also be willing to learn new technologies, perform problem solving independently and able to work alone and under pressure. Those with a quantitative mindset, good communication skills, knowledge in computer programming, and prior experience in VR systems design and programming would have an advantage. Applicants with less qualification and experience may be considered for appointment as Research Assistant II.

The appointee will engage in creating highly interactive VR/MR applications playable in different VR hardware systems; analyse, design, and develop interactive VR/MR applications based on different project requirements; participate in research projects involving VR systems design and development with applications in the logistics and service industries; design and develop prototypes for proof-of-concept of new technologies developed by the research team; and work closely with team leaders, developers and design team in the creation of interactive VR/MR experience.
